Tuesday teatime saw the restart of the Special Schools Canoe Club ( formerly know as Sandside Satellite Canoe Club) All pupils, their families and carers can take part and join in. For more information about the group please click above on DCC and the Community and a menu will drop down for you to chose from. The name has been updated as other special schools wish to join.
The session got off to a great start with the weather being fairly kind as there was only a smattering of rain and a slight breeze. Everyone went out in Canadian canoes as this was the next type of craft some of the pupils wished to learn more about. Last year many of the members gained alot of confidence in paddling kayaks so much so that many progressed to paddling on their own in a K1. This was a great achievement for all concerned and the smiles on the youngsters faces was an amazing sight to see when they realised how far they had progressed.
There was plenty of wildlife to be seen on this trip including swans and cormorants. The highlight of the paddle was a visit to the rarely seen Barrovian Pyramids that had appeared on the dock side ( a little imagination can go a long way)and on return to base camp ended with a well deserved hot chocolate and ginger biscuits.
Looking forward to next week to hear what adventures they all get up to. Watch this space.
