What is Wild Water Racing?
  (      Check out this u-tube clip          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGwF2d_Ac3w    )

A few members have asked what  WWR (Wild Water Racing) on the club events list is all about, so here is an outline.
If you wish to have a go, or would like any additional information, please contact me, John Sherwen, and come along.

Wild Water Racing - How it works

Races are held on rivers.

Races        Races are held as timed runs on rivers with individuals starting at 1 min intervals.

Sprint: - 2 runs over a short distance, less than 1 km.
Classic:- 1 run over 3-4 km, (about 20 min.)

Entry Level

Wavehopper challenge - Races for all

Regional Races - Races for all

Sometimes Wavehopper and Regional races are run together; the events are usually on grade 1/2  rivers and                                  are ideal for novices.
Some Regional races need more experience but race details state if suitable for novices.

National Races  Adult and youth, though for more experienced paddlers, run on grade 3/4 rivers.
More info at the GB Wildwater Canoeing website
The boats

Wavehoppers:- plastic racing boats. Can be used in any race.
WWR K1:- composite boats made of carbon and glass fibre. Used in all races except wavehopper challenge. Fast                        boats.
GP:- short general purpose boats can be used in regional and wavehopper races. They are a good introduction                              boat especially for the under 10 age group.
C1 and C2 boats are also used in all races except Wavehopper.
